The Fremantle Hospital Emergency Department (ED) is closing at 7am on Tuesday 3 February, at the same time Fiona Stanley Hospital’s (FSH) ED opens.

People should not present to Fremantle Hospital for emergency care after this time.

People seeking emergency care may attend their closest ED, which may be FSH, Royal Perth Hospital, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Princess Margaret Hospital, Armadale Health Service, Rockingham General Hospital or Peel Health Campus.

Mental health support is available through the mental health emergency response line (MHERL)  - a 24-hour service:

  • Metro callers on 1300 555 788 (local call)
  • Peel callers on 1800 676 822 (free call).

While the changes are underway and immediately after, EDs in the metropolitan area are expected to be busy and people are asked to consider their need to attend an ED.

If it is not an emergency, people are asked to consider going to a GP, after hours GP clinic or call healthdirect Australia on 1800 022 222. In case of an emergency, always call an ambulance by dialling 000.

The closure of Fremantle Hospital’s ED is a pivotal step in the hospital’s transition to becoming WA’s biggest specialist hospital, with services focusing on aged care, elective surgery and mental health.
