Rockingham General Hospital (RGH) experienced a baby boom in September as midwives helped deliver a record number of newborns.

A total of 181 babies were safely welcomed throughout the month, including one set of twins and three who just couldn’t wait - born before arriving at RGH. One of whom was delivered en route to the hospital by his father, an RGH graduate nurse.

Director of Nursing and Midwifery Kath Smith said this record surpassed all previous monthly records since the hospital first opened in 1975.

“We have seen a steady rise in births alongside the increase in local population and following the upgrade to our unit as part of the RGH redevelopment,” she said.

“Our models of care help make mums feel at ease and our maternity team deserve credit for the outstanding care provided to our patients.”

“I would like to say congratulations and a sincere thanks to everyone for their hard work during our busiest ever month.”
