About us

Our emergency department (ED) provides a 24-hour, 7-day-a-week emergency service for adults and children and sees more than 60,000 patients per year.

The department is staffed by an experienced and caring multidisciplinary team of professionals dedicated to the health and wellbeing of the hospital's patients.

We care for people whose health conditions are serious and require urgent attention or are too complex to be managed in a General Practitioner's rooms.

Our ED has access to a range of medical imaging services on-site as well as short-stay, medical assessment and intensive care units.

Patients in our ED are seen in order of their illness severity, not in order of attendance. Seriously ill patients will be attended to first while those with relatively minor illnesses may have to wait.

The emergency department is accredited with the Australian College of Emergency Medicine.

Our facilities and services include:

  • 24-bays with resuscitation equipment readily available
  • adult and paediatric resuscitation bays, with provision for a third resuscitation bay
  • negative pressure isolation cubicle
  • interview room
  • plaster room
  • procedure room
  • ear, nose and throat/ophthalmology room
  • obstetric and gynaecology room
  • 10 adult assessment bays
  • five paediatric cubicles
  • minor illness/injury treatment area with four assessment bays and six chairs
  • five beds on the Short Stay Unit for ED patients with an anticipated length of stay of less than 48-hours
  • dedicated children’s area for waiting, assessment, treatment and observation
  • comprehensive radiology and pathology services
  • on-site support from a range of in-patient specialties.
