Silver Chain expands Peel's health care options

March 27, 2015

Access to palliative care services for local public patients in the Peel region and surrounding areas will expand with the appointment of the Silver Chain Group, which will provide 24-hour medical advice and nursing support when needed.

Health Minister Kim Hames today announced that palliative care patients in and around the Peel region would continue to have local access to a nursing team headed by a clinical nurse consultant, with the option of respite care at home through the Silver Chain arrangement.

"Local community-based support is essential for terminally ill patients and Silver Chain will expand the service that was provided through the Peel Community Palliative Care program," Dr Hames said.

"The enhanced service will allow patients, their families and carers greater peace of mind during a very difficult period in their lives and they will continue to have access to Murray District Hospital care if there's a need for in-hospital treatment or an appropriate alternative.
