Building community links

July 24, 2014

Rockingham General Hospital (RGH) welcomed members of the local Aboriginal community by hosting a tour and afternoon tea for the Rockingham Kwinana District Aboriginal Health Advisory Group (DAHAG).

Executive Director Geraldine Carlton said the event was an opportunity to build stronger ties with the community.

“We want to show that our hospital is a place where Aboriginal people will feel welcome and safe,” she said.

“Our health service has some strong relationships and service links with the community and we want to build on this by ensuring that our staff are culturally aware.

“The DAHAG provided some positive feedback and areas where we can work together to improve access to our services and quality of care for Aboriginal patients and their families.

“We are fortunate to have a team of Aboriginal Health Liaison Officers (AHLO) on site and we look forward to welcoming Charlie Kickett to our hospital as an Aboriginal Health Liaison Officer from next week. Charlie is well-known in the community and will join Charmaine Walley in providing support to Aboriginal patients at RGH,” Geraldine said.
