Families whose babies were cared for in the Rockingham General Hospital (RGH) Neonatal Unit (NNU) have expressed their appreciation to staff in light of Thank U NICU Day on 8 November.

NNU Clinical Nurse Wendy Thompson said having a baby born too early or critically ill is devastating, but the NNU staff provide support for babies and parents in the time of need.

“I spend a lot of time with the babies and their families and feel privileged to be a part of their journey towards going home,” Wendy said.

Christen Luxton, whose son Nova was born prematurely at 35 weeks after an emergency c-section, said she could not fault the care they received in the unit.

“The staff here treat you like a daughter,” Christen said.

“I felt supported and included, and knew my son was receiving the very best care.”
